How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
The song we had chosen was originally sung by Katy Perry “if you can afford me” by choosing this song we then created our artist Leonie. The target audience is focussed mainly on teenagers, as the song is upbeat. However the song would be more related to the female gender as the songs we created are about guys and love etc. By looking at previous videos that Katy Perry stars in they are mainly focussed on her telling the story as well as showing other shots that relate to it. We have followed this structure with our video mainly focussing on Leonie as well as showing shots about the storyline in the video. We decided that by having different locations in the video it would make the video more interesting and effective, so that it would show different lifestyles of the character. As a group we decided that we would have different scenes showing Leonie using different transports for each chorus, by doing this we believe that it would make the video look busy to keep the audience’s attention to watch our music video.
Before creating our digi pack we took many pictures throughout filming to decide what pictures we thought would go best to create our digi pack. When creating our digi pack we found this difficult for the pictures to flow well with the video. We then decided that the best background to use would be the pink wall in the background of our video because they then would both relate to each other and be recognisable. However we decided that we wanted a different picture for the front cover so that the digi pack wouldn’t look boring and by having the pink writing it would follow the girly look that we wanted to create. We decided that we wouldn’t include Joe in our digi pack as Leonie was our main focus, even though he played a big part in our video we still thought that he didn’t need to be shown on our digi pack.
When creating our MySpace we still wanted to follow the girly look to represent our artist, by choosing the love heart background we believe that this went with the fun feel of the video and still appealed to our target audience. By having this MySpace we wanted people to notice our artist so that she would become more popular hoping that people would attract to Leonie’s music and encourage others to listen. We also created a face book page as it is one of the most popular social sites around so by creating this Leonie would become more noticed with what she has created. We had many people that joined our face book page and some commented on it. They were very encouraging and couldn’t wait to hear her new single as well as commenting on some of her pictures. With these social sites Leonie started to become more popular and had increased in the amount of fans she started to have. However with facebook we couldn’t show change the background or the colours of text so we was unable to express on here what Leonie is like.
However as a group we have also created merchandise to represent the artist. By making a mug, t-shirt etc we used the picture of the Leonie from the motorbike scene from the video. We thought that by using this picture the target audience would be for both men and women but then thought that we should also include another picture that would be more girly and friendly for our younger audience as it would appeal better for them.
